Sales will still mainly be driven by games, but every little helps, and it may entice a few more partners to fill the christmas stocking with a ps3 this year alongside a copy of the film. Since the playstation generation ranges in age from early twenties to late thirties, and this film is being aimed at that age group as well, the pieces are there for a successful console launch due in part to film sales. The ps3 will probably still be the cheapest blu-ray player on the market by the end of the year, and the film is popular enough for people to want the hi-def version. Although it may sound crazy that people would consider buying a gaming console for a film, it does make sense. This will then be backed up with a huge marketing campaign, which will not only push the already very popular film, but also potentially drive sales of sony's latest console. Apparently sony will ensure a blu-ray version of the film is available for release around the time of the playstation 3 launch in november. The film, which is setting box office records around the world, is owned by distributor columbia pictures, which is owned by sony.
